There is no pot of gold here, but you will be happy to find a bag full of fantastic family time at this amusement park. Go crazy with over 20 rides and attractions at Rainbow’s End and keep the fun on demand! If you’re up for it, take on the Big 5 rides for an adrenaline pounding and exhilarating experience full of dips, turns, spins, and dives! Mellowing the day down would mean riding much friendlier rides in the Log Flume or Dodgems. For an early driver’s education course, you could bring your kids to the AA Driver’s Town. They will drive miniaturized cars through a small town complete with crossings, traffic lights, and road signs!

This used to be a run-off playground with equipment nearly 20 years old. Thanks to the efforts of the local board, the playground at Sherwood Reserve gained new life and a list of great upgrades. The centre has a large wooden castle pavilion with working drawbridges. New modules include swings, monkey bars, seesaws and a large sailing area. For picnics, there’s a new dining area with refurbished wooden tables and benches. On top of those new features, there is a special wooden obstacle course to challenge your little one, as well as concrete path for scooter and bike riders.

Rocket Ropes promises itself as the ultimate rope-traversing obstacle challenge in Auckland. Face the competition with over 60 different aerial activities to choose from in between two very different courses. Designed for the little ones, the Rocketeer Course for those aged 2-6 years old teaches the fundamentals and basic techniques of rope climbing. Toddlers and Pre-schoolers can climb the ropes through the viking ship and through the many tunnels with supervision. Meanwhile, experienced climbers such as kids and teenagers can race against the clock or against each other in the Croc Tower. Fly through the air, crawl through barrels, navigate spider webs and slip knots, and jump your way to the finish line!

Getting here is actually easy being a quick 15-minute walk from the Britomart Transport Centre and Ferry Building. Its also quite near Queen Street and is also accessible via the City LINK bus. A 10-minute drive away from Auckland, Kelly Tarlton’s Sea Life Aquarium brings the wonders of undersea life right next to the city. But the event that holds everyone in awe is the Shark Cage Adventure, an in-your-face spectacle that lets you stand in a cage and be dipped in a tank full of live sharks! Filled with exciting activities that teach fun Science and Math, My Science Play Room is the perfect playroom for kids and toddlers. The ‘My Garden Area’ is a free play area where kids can freely walk around and play with the different knobs, dress ups, and objects. Located in the iconic Pah Homestead, the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre is a historic destination housing the James Wallace Trust art collection. You and your kids can take a walk through art history with over 8,500 works on rotation in the centre’s gallery. There’s also an on-going community education programme for local schools and everyone else looking to learn more about the art collection. Take a guided tour through the exhibits for a no-hassle experience, or you could also have a hands-on day with different art materials at the Art Club. And after the long tour, make sure to book a stay at the comfy Homestead, where cozy beds and scrumptious meals await you.

The home of 135 species and over 1,400 animals, Auckland Zoo is the primary conservation centre for local and international animals in the capital. Located west of the city and right beside the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT), you could take the tram from here to the zoo proper. You could also take the bus from the 8124 stop on the Great North Road, opposite Motions Road.
The zoo houses many popular mammals (elephants, rhinos, red pandas, etc.), birds (penguins!), and even various reptiles, fish, and amphibians. Aside from the animal displays, you could also test out your shutter finger at the Photography Workshops, or experience the zoo after dark through the Safari Nights. Get closure to nature with all the animals you could meet!

Looking for a more peaceful outing with your kids? How about an out-of-town trip that is just minutes away from Auckland? Clevedon Animal Farm was established by Lynn Cllecutt to help spread her love for animals. Trained in obedience training and horsemanship, many of the cute and fuzzy animals on the farm have been personally trained by Lynn. Kids can touch and pet the many horses and farm animals, as well as get pony rides around the farm’s arena. After that, you can take a leisurely Farm Visit and Walk to see more of the barn and animal settlements. The Clevedon Farmers Market is another place to visit and pet rabbits, sheep, and goats, and get pony rides.
