    We understand that wholesome, family entertainment can be hard to come by. This really applies to a lot of us; are there really places where we can have fun with our kids without twisting an ankle or straining our backs? What we’re pushing for here are activities that not only keep kids active and busy, but can also help develop the ties between family members.

    Because if you’re going to have a good time with the kids, you might as well participate in what they want to do! Here are the best family activities in Auckland that you can do without the need to sacrifice what’s left of your youth!

    Sky Tower

    The crown jewel of the Auckland skyline, the Sky Tower’s 328 metre tall frame has witnessed the clouds for over 20 years. The tower itself is part of the Auckland SKYCITY, an entertainment complex built with world-class hotels, a casino, and a 700 seater theatre. With just a simple coin donation, you and your family will gain access to a 360 degree, panoramic view of the city. You would be able to see sights such as Rangitoto Island, Mount Victoria and Maungauika, the North Head. And if the height doesn’t bother you, take a wild, adrenaline rush by taking a base-jump via SkyJump, or go ‘Mission Impossible’ by traversing the edges of the tower through SkyWalk!

Getting here is quite simple: its 3 minutes away via the train to the West Auckland studio district. The state-of-the-art studio was built to present live presentations of different kid-friendly stories. Your kids will be able to laugh, play, and enjoy the theatre production’s top notch quality in acting and music. After taking in the live studio show, take it outside to the Urban Playground, a massive complex full of studio-quality props and play areas. We’re not sure if adults can play inside the Playground, but its worth a shot!

    Tree Adventures

    Bring out the inner jungle adventurer in you. Scaling Tree Adventures is like taking a wilder version of the SkyWalk, with more carabiners, high-level cables and platforms! Kids will certainly enjoy the thrill of scaling trees like Tarzan, but what about the adults? Don’t worry, there is a “choose your own Adventure” option, with 10 tree-scaling courses of varying heights and difficulty. If the heights really scare you, you could take the Tree Huggin’ adventure route and scale the easiest course to see some amazing treetop views. Try out a course you’re comfortable with, and climb away!

    Lock N Load Adventures

    Weekends: Runs group bookings and open sessions (opens at 9 am, 12 noon and last one at 3 pm)

    Track down opposing teams and tag them, hit targets like the Green Arrow, or use superior tactics in a paintball run at Lock N Load Adventures. Just located on the outskirts of Auckland, this enclave dedicated to shooting sports and competitions can excite any active loving family. Playing areas and arenas are completely safe for kids aged 7 and up, so you can be rest assured of a very smooth experience. The only things getting hurt here would be a loser’s pride!

    Step into the frontier of VR entertainment at the Virtual Reality Studio. You not only get to play the usual selection of VR games available, but you also get to traverse true 3D worlds and interact with the environment. One moment you’re building a virtual house, and in the next you would be swimming through an ocean with a virtual whale. You could also design your very own illustration and move through it like its a space! The limits of this studio are virtually limitless.

    At first glance, the unassuming adventure rooms at Escape Masters look and sound like any other ‘escape room’ concept. You have to believe us when we say that ‘seeing is believing.’ Each themed room was designed to be as detailed as possible. One room even lets you run around to solve puzzles and clues using a VR headset! You better click on this link to book immediately before you run out of time slots! Otherwise, you and your family can immerse in a haunted hotel, a bank heist, or a brewing gang war (complete with an actual bar!).

    Hex Escape Room

    Hex Escape Room and its staff are ready to test your wits and patience for the puzzling and the bizarre.
