We all know Peter Parker, he’s been the original Spider-Man since his creation and first appearance in 1962’s Amazing Fantasy. We’ve seen three franchises in the last two decades of him played by Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield and now Tom Holland in the current MCU. And we’ve seen his origin story of him getting bitten by a radioactive spider and his high school days way too many times but in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, we have a fresh new take on this popular franchise.
This time, Peter isn’t a freshman in high school – he’s a full-fledged adult. That means, comic fans finally get a feature-length movie of the Peter Parker we currently know and love in the comics. Some of the best Spider-Man stories have been post high school and it’s great to see how a veteran Spider-Man fights on the streets.
In this movie, Peter becomes a mentor to the new Spider-Man, Miles Morales.
It’s great that the next iteration of Spider-Man is an Afro-Latino American. Miles Morales represents a new generation of New Avengers to capture the younger demographic. Similar to Peter, he was also bitten by a radioactive spider but as we come to learn in this movie, the origin story that we all know differs in different dimensions. Miles is the second protagonist of Into The Spider-Verse and we can’t wait to see how he takes the lead in future sequels.
Remember Gwen Stacy from Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man films? Well guess what, in another universe she also got bitten by a radioactive spider. (Go figure). Spider-Gwen joins the spider team to help fix the dimension problem but also proving that girls can be Spider-WOMEN too.

Peni is a Japanse middle school girl from a dystopian world. She wasn’t bitten by a spider but she does pilot a mechanical, radioactive spider bot. She got her surname because she was adopted by Ben and May Parker. At least there is one universe where Uncle Ben doesn’t die.
