    Blak Markets joins Queens Baton Relay Celebrations at La Perouse

    Join Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artisans at the iconic Blak Markets at Bare Island Sunday, 4 January from 9.30am to 3pm and join in the afternoon’s celebrations for the Queens Baton Relay.

    The Blak Markets are a great chance to buy authentic unique gifts this Christmas knowing that 100% of the profits go back into Aboriginal communities. From original and affordable aboriginal artworks to handmade beauty products, handicrafts to one-of-a-kind homewares and jewellery, there are gifts for all ages.
     

    Entertainment for the day includes a welcome to country at 10am, the Illawarra Flames Tree dance group, a kids performance of the Wombat Wobble by Aunty Wendy Wombat and Didja Didge characters and Triple J Unearthed High Indigenous Award winner, 16-year-old Indigenous singer-songwriter Rebecca Hatch will perform live.

    The Blak Markets are organised by First Hand Solutions which is an Aboriginal charity providing cultural re connection programs for urban Aboriginal young people and profits from the Blak Markets are invested into these programs.

    11:00 – Whale ceremony with Tucky Cooley – Booking Required

    11:30– Singing performance by Rebecca Hatch

    12:00 – The Illlawarra Flame Trees dance Group

    1:00 – Singing Performance by Rebecca Hatch

    1:30 The Wombat Wobble by Aunty Wendy Wombat and Didja Didge characters 

    2:00 – Healing Ceremony with Tucky Cooley Booking Required

    3:00 – Blak Markets Closed

    • Direct buses to La Perouse depart from Circular Quay and Railway Square. The trip takes about 30 min.

    • Get off at the last bus stop at La Perouse

    • 2 min walk to Bare Island accessed by bridge

    • Follow Anzac Pde all the way down to the peninsula. 

    • Enter the Bare Island Carpark
