The market is full of the rich, comforting flavours of winter, with purple cauliflower, heirloom carrots, pumpkins, kale, rainbow chard, celery, apples, oranges and pears. Christina’s World

    Date: August 2, 2019 - August 3, 2019

Christina, in middle age, is obsessed by a desire to return to the house of her youth and the imagination she created there—a kind of second Eden of lost childhood and the Pastoral Dream. She succeeds in conjuring her young self, a hesitant and idealistic dream figure who gradually takes on the characteristics of a ‘real’ Christina—a contradictory, perverse, tragi-comic adolescent with a fierce egocentric life of her own. But the house is peopled by malignant ghosts and terrible memories. In the end we are left with an enigma. Was there ever such a house? Was there a lover, a father, a mad uncle, a drowned child—or were they all nothing more than figments of the young Christina’s distorted imagination? Was there ever such a place as Christina’s World? Christina’s World was commissioned by the Music and Literature Boards of the Australia Council. The first performance was given in the Everest Theatre, Sydney, on 24 November 1983. Yours Truly – Afterglow Headline Tour

    Date: August 3, 2019

Yours Truly head out on their first Australian Headline Tour this August to celebrate the release of their EP ‘Afterglow’. The Sydney based 4 piece return to Australia after a successful debut international tour in the UK which saw the band hit the stage at the coveted Download Festival, and share the stage with State Champs and Sum 41 on a number of intimate shows. At its core, the ‘Afterglow’ EP is a collection of songs that speaks to the strength within because Yours Truly don’t wallow in their pity. They use their fire as fuel for self-improvement, pushing past any obstacle that seeks to derail their dreams. All the while, they themselves are dedicated to showing other musicians the path forward—just like the Australian acts that came before them: Outside of the band, Mikaila moonlights as a vocal instructor, and those are her students you’ll hear on (and see in the music video for) ‘Circles’. It’s proof that, with the right attitude, we’re all capable of paying it forward to future generations. “We’re all very positive, “Mikaila says. “We’re not going to put out songs where we sound super angry, but we still want to make sure every song we write has something important to say.” Please follow and like us:

Exhibition On Screen – Young Picasso

    Date: August 4, 2019

Pablo Picasso is one of the greatest artists of all time—and right up until his death in 1973 he was the most prolific of artists. Many films have dealt with these later years—the art, the affairs and the wide circle of friends. But where did this all begin? What made Picasso in the first place? Too long ignored, it is time to look at the early years of Picasso; the upbringing and the learning that led to his extraordinary achievements. Three cities play a key role: Malaga, Barcelona and Paris. Young Picasso visits each and explores their influence on Picasso, focusing on specific artworks from these early years. The film thus explains how this young artist acquired his craft. Looking carefully at two key early periods—the so-called Blue Period and Rose Period—the film takes us all the way to 1907 and the creation of a critical painting in the history of art—Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. It was a painting that shocked the art world but changed it irrevocably. Picasso was only 25 years old. Working closely with all three Picasso Museums in Malaga, Barcelona and Paris this film explains how he rose to great heights. Book today and enjoy this wonderful experience. Postmodern Jukebox creator Scott Bradlee hopes this new decade will see a return to the style and craftsmanship that typified the music of past generations. “Last time around the ‘Twenties gave us Jazz, America’s one true art form. Who knows what is possible in the 2020s?” says Bradlee. “One thing that is for sure is that there are a lot of folks that are tired of the clickbait headlines, mindless reality TV, and smartphone addiction that has only served to divide people in the last decade. We’re using our small corner of the pop culture space to tell people to forget their troubles, and come join us for a night of celebrating true musical talent and timeless style – live and in real life.” Postmodern Jukebox’s Welcome to the Twenties 2.0 Tour will host official Twenties 2.0 initiation performance parties in nearly 250 cities all around the world. “When creating a touring version of the Postmodern Jukebox concept, we work on pairing the right talent with the right material and building a unique and amazing experience for Postmodern Jukebox fans,” Bradlee says. “Get ready for the most sensational ’20s party this side of The Great Gatsby.” Started by Scott Bradlee in 2009, Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ) have gone on to amass over one billion YouTube views with 3.5 million subscribers, and have chalked up more than 1.7 million fans on Facebook.
