    Heads and Tales

General Heads and Tales Story Services offers a range of quality story events: storytelling performances, children’s parties, and story-making and storytelling workshops for children. Led by Anna Manuel, an educational professional, reading advocate, author and storyteller, these activities are carefully designed with the children’s interests and needs in mind. Children come home entertained, satisfied, and inspired by stories. At Heads and Tales, we believe in the impact stories can make in creating a better world for our children. Storytelling Performances Trained as a reading professional, Anna offers a carefully designed program that engages children’s growing literacy and curiosity. With a balance of different story formats and music and movement, children will be smiling, participating, and engaging in a happy, creative environment. In Heads and Tales repertoire is a unique storytelling format called “kamishibai” (or “paper theatre”) – a Japanese story art form that makes use of picture cards housed in a wooden stage. The storyteller synchs telling and sliding pictures in and out of the stage, revealing pictures underneath. Its power lies in “still anticipation” shaped by a subtle balance between visual and oral tools. Children are mesmerized and at the edge of their seats awaiting how stories unfold. Invite Anna to your children’s party or playgroup. Suggest Heads and Tales Storytelling Performance to your school or community. We only deliver quality performance for you and your little ones! And take home some literacy and story ideas you can do at home.

Category: Classes, Art, Shops, and Arts and Crafts

Play. Learn. Create Providing a home for all budding artists, young or the young at heart that would like to channel their creative energy. Art is everywhere. At home on the walls in the form of photographs, the shape, colours and design on the bowl you ate our breakfast from. When we makeART we are developing so many skills in addition to the ability to draw and paint. It doesn’t matter what age you are, exploring ideas, playing with materials, building skills in different processes in art and the creative process all help to build confidence in what we do, in expressing emotion and helps us to observe and appreciate the world around us. All makeART classes and workshops introduce the elements of art; colour, line, shape, texture, form, space and value and most classes will introduce an influential artist or two relating to the subject being looked at. Our classes run an eight-week term beginning a week after school starts and finish a week before school end. We try to mix it up with creating the opportunity to explore a variety of drawing, painting and three-dimensional art work each term depending on the subject.
